Kaumatua

Kaumātua

A three-year-long project created by photographer Sara (Hera) Tautuku Orme. With this kaupapa, we hope to bring mana to our kaumātua, read what they share, and ignite further kōrero.

As an authentic photographic essay / biography on the Kaumatua – we drew inspiration from the classic 'Whare Wall' which we have coined the striking Family photography walls in which a lot of the Kaumatua have in their houses. Images are bountiful and put together in such disorder, but somehow encapsulate an absolute striking embodiment of life with such a grace and realness.‍
